Want a new life? A second chance? A glow up? You’ve come to the right place! A fresh start ritual can help you take steps that focus on your self care in order for you to regain autonomy of your life again if you have been feeling stagnant or lost on where to begin getting your life back in order. Here are 10 steps for you to follow:
1. Take a few deep breaths. Inhale through your nose and exhale with your mouth. Then repeat these three affirmations to yourself: ” I am deserving of a better life. I have the power to change for the better. I will rewrite my destiny.”
The most important part is to actually want the affirmations you are saying to yourself and believe in them. Saying these affirmations will help re-wire your mindset and beliefs so that you will cultivate a healthy relationship with how you think and speak to yourself.
2. Take a shower to cleanse your body, mind & spirit. Make sure to brush your teeth, rinse your hair, and scrub your body to feel freshened up! While doing so, imagine all of the weariness and heavy dull energy being washed away from your body and have a warm, bright light replace it as the water hits your skin. Taking time to cleanse your body will help you feel lighter and you have already taken a step to feel like a brand new person.
3. After taking a shower, be sure to dry your hair properly and moisturize your body. It is important for your body to retain the moisture so that you don’t end up with dry and cracked skin over time. Taking care of your skin affirms the love you are giving yourself, showing that you are consistently treating yourself with care and respect.
Look in the mirror and repeat these affirmations: I am deserving of having a body I feel healthy in, I look after myself with love and care. Be sure to wear clothes you feel good in as well.
4. Now, assess your living situation. Let’s start with your room or sleeping area! Is your bed tidy enough where you have space to sleep comfortably? If not, remove anything from your bed that will distract or hinder you from getting a good nights rest.
Next, gather all of the clothes that need to be washed and garbage that need to be thrown away or recycled. Place any dirty dishes and cups into the kitchen sink.
Then, sweep, un-dust, vacuum or mop your floor and other surfaces such as your desk or shelves from any left over dirt.
5. Now let’s cleanse your room! Make sure to air out your room by opening the door and windows to let in fresh air. Cleanse your room of any old and stagnant energy by playing any music that makes you feel energized, happy, or calm.
Sing while you clean and tidy up.
By cleansing your room with joyful sounds, you are letting your space be filled with new and joyful energy. If you are unable to make any loud noises, light a scented candle to let your space be filled with a good aroma or wave a lighted incense to cleanse your room with smoke.
6. Take a break! Nap! Or eat. Listen to calming or fun music! Anything that makes you feel better and recharged. This is just the basics, the rest of your room such as your closet and desk drawers can be saved for later.
For now it is important to have a tidy enough space for you to feel less stressed out by any clutter that was in your room before you cleaned. Remember, your room is an extension of yourself. It is a sanctuary where you should feel safe and comfortable enough to rest in, not feel more stressed out in.
7. After you’ve taken a well deserved break, have a notebook or paper to write and draw in. Sit at your desk and write down all of the things you like about yourself. After that, write down any favorite memories you have where you felt joyful, excited, or at peace.
8. Next, write down all of the traits to have and draw the things you want to do before the rest of the year ends. What can do you to embody the traits you want to have? Make a plan of any skills you wish to learn and get better at.
This will be your vision board!
You can make an upgraded on by making a digital collage of pictures of what you want your life to look like in the near future and print it out to place it where you can see it most frequently.
9. Now here are three things you must have no matter what: good self esteem, good self respect, and self discipline. In order to build and nurture these three things within yourself, all you have to do is keep the promises you make with yourself. These promises can be good self habits such as eating healthy, reading, taking a morning walk.
The promises are what you wish to do for yourself out of love or ambition. It can range from self care or goals you want to achieve. By making progress to keep these promises, you will build esteem, respect and discipline.
If you don’t build these three things, you will always be searching for attention and validation from other people. To avoid that, give yourself the attention and validation you need and you will gradually stop relying on other people to determine your worth.
10. Here’s a secret! Remember this : You have always had self worth. In truth, you have always been worthy. This worth within you cannot be taken away. No matter what you do or what happens to you, you will still be worthy of existence.
So by keeping the promises you make to yourself you are building your confidence and the three things needed in order for you to maintain this new life you have wished for yourself.
Well done! You have completed the ritual.
